Aside
from its scenic and natural wonders, Bantayan is also
famous for its being allowed to eat meat during the
traditional Filipino fasting and penitence period of
Lent. This is because during Holy Week, when the Lord
Jesus Christ is supposed to be dead, fishermen in the
island avoid going to the sea to catch fish as they
also participate in the Church rituals. The Catholic
Church understands this, thus, it allows Bantayanons
to feast on meat on this season.
